A few weeks ago, I went to Leeds for the Comics Forum.
Having only ever passed through Leeds on the train, I was pleased to have the chance to look around.
While in the museum I also came across this excellent of mosaic of Romulus and Remus and a slightly demented looking wolf. I love it. It comes from a floor in the Roman city of Isurium Brigantum – now Aldborough in North Yorkshire.
The conference itself was held in Leeds Central Library. What a fantastic place (with beautiful cafe and Art Gallery in the same building).
I listened to lots of great papers at the conference, but of key interest to readers of this blog were papers by Paul Bristow, Sarah McNicol, John Miers and Lydia Wysocki, and John Swogger.
Paul Bristow talked about the community projects and comics he’s worked on through Magic Torch Comics.
John Swogger talked about his past and future comics projects related to archaeological fieldwork and history on islands in the Pacific and Caribbean.
John also had print copies of his Anglesey comics on hand.
If you’re not planning on visiting North Wales anytime soon you can read them online.
Sadly, I couldn’t stay on for Thought Bubble. Next year maybe…
